Building relationships across generations.
“Intergenerational programs are activities or programs that increase cooperation, interaction or exchange between any two generations. It involves the sharing of skills knowledge or experiences between young and old.” from The United States National Council on Aging
Bernadette’s House has partnered with Laurel Senior Center to provide mentoring from our seniors. “Adopt a Grandmother” is a great opportunity for youth to be of service and to feel needed. Through a variety of activities, youth develop sensitivity and respect for the needs of others, develop lasting friendships with older people, and learn to work as a team on special community and special interest projects. For the older adults, it is an opportunity to share knowledge and regain a sense of usefulness.
