A Message from Carol
We help girls Believe, Blossom and SOARMy story began in New York City, where at three years old, I was placed under the total care of Sister Maria Bernadette, a devoted member of the Franciscan Handmaids of the Most Pure Heart of Mary—a historically Black Catholic congregation of Religious Sisters located in New York City. Her nurturing guidance and steadfast faith shaped my earliest years and instilled in me the values that still guide my life today.
From her, I learned that faith, love, social skills, and life skills form the foundation of a purposeful and impactful life. That seed of wisdom later blossomed into Bernadette’s House, which I founded in 2012 to create a safe, empowering space for underserved girls to believe in themselves, blossom in confidence, and soar boldly into their futures. For 13 years, it has been my honor to watch this vision come alive and to see the lives of so many young ladies transformed. Today, I am blessed to pass the mantle of leadership to Tanya Johnson-Martin, who I'm confident will guide Bernadette’s House into its next chapter with passion, dedication, and vision. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6 With deep gratitude for the past and hope for the future, I remain committed to supporting this mission and cheering on every girl who walks through our doors.
