Amara Harris

Bernadette’s House is so grateful that Amara spent her summer working with us! Her constant presence in our Brains and Beauty Summer Program ensured its success. She held everything together - from communicating with our families to making the girls feel welcome and valued in their drama and aeronautics experiences. Her excellent organizational skills and heart for community service were obvious to all. Thank you, Amara…we are pleased to name you our BH volunteer of the month for August 2024!

Noah Jaffe

Bernadette’s House is pleased to announce that Mr. Noah Jaffe has been selected as our “Valued Volunteer” for June of 2024! Noah joined the organization in early 2023, with an interest in working with our Homework Helpers Program. His initial project for BH involved completely updating our volunteer tracking system, which has allowed us to better understand the hours of work being done for the organization and has helped tremendously in strengthening this metric of our success. In 2024, Noah became an integral part of the BH Robotics for Girls curriculum, donating his time and expertise in computers to the girls enrolled in the program. Thank you, Noah, for all your great work!

April 2024 - Ms. Julie Anbarchian
In early 2024, Ms. Julie Anbarchian was looking for volunteer teaching opportunities in her community….we are so happy that she found her way to the BH Team! Julie began working with our new BH Robotics for Girls Program in March, and has truly made a difference in the lives of the girls in the course. She is able to take complex concepts in computer coding and make them easy to understand. Her work with the weekly classes and her care for the students has helped to make this one of BH’s most successful new program launches!

March 2024 - Ms. Bonnie Jackson
Ms. Bonnie Jackson has been such a great addition to the BH Team! She joined us in 2023 and immediately went to work making her mark in the organization by implementing a fantastic dinner party fundraiser.  More recently, she has provided continuity to the BH Robotics for Girls Program as a volunteer, as well as serving as an inspiring mentor in the BH Blossoms curriculum.  We value her immensely and are thrilled to honor her as our volunteer of the month!

January 2024 - Ms. LaWanda McGlone
Ms. LaWanda McGlone was selected as BH volunteer of the month for many reasons. She is always the first person to raise her hand to help out with anything needed by the organization!  In addition to serving as a fantastic mentor in the BH Blossoms Program, she also helped promote the non-profit at a Laurel Festival, and also rolled up her sleeves to help us move out of our office space. We are grateful to have her as a part of our BH Family!

June 2023 - Ms. Emilola Abayomi
Emilola joined BH in December 2022, when she first volunteered for the BH Mentoring Program. She was nominated for this volunteer of the month honor by the Mentoring Committee, who praised her for her close and ongoing relationship with her mentee, her participation in BH sponsored mentor/mentee outings, and for the care that she took in keeping the Committee informed of her activities. Emilola also recently joined as a new member of the committee.  Thank you, Emilola for your dedication to the girls in the community and to the Bernadette's House organization. We appreciate you and all your efforts help us to continue to encourage our BH young ladies to Believe, Blossom & Soar!

May 2023 - Ms. Robin Edwards
Robin has been with BH since 2012 - and is one of the only current volunteers that has been with the organization since its founding! She is currently on staff as the BH Philanthropy Director, but she has done so much for the organization in all areas!  You've likely seen Robin at many of our community events (like the 2023 Juneteenth celebration in Columbia, or at the Laurel Main Street Festival). She has been with us through it all, and we are so grateful for everything that she does for BH!

March 2023 - Dr. Grace Saunders

Grace, who served as the first Presidents of Bernadette's House Board of Directors in 2012 has returned to the non-profit to oversee the recently re-started Bernadette's Blossoms Mentoring Program. Her vast expertise and leadership is helping BH continue to grow this core community program.

February 2023 - Ms. Shania Foster

Shania is the lead for the BH Mentoring Program, which was re-established in December 2022. She has such enthusiasm and talent for working with our youth, and she is the reason that we have been able to offer this important program again.

January 2023 - Ms. Margo Stoll and Mr. Steve Coons

Margo & Steve are long-time supporters of BH. They have written and published the BH Quarterly Newsletter since 2018, and Margo helped out weekly with office work at our previous Laurel home. Steve and their other family members were also instrumental in our BH house move in January of 2022.
